About Me
Growing up I participated in a lot of sports: basketball, softball, lacrosse, cheerleading… For me, sports was a way to release my stress from the rigors of school and the outside world.
In college I decided to walk on to George Mason’s Division 1 rowing team. While I loved the sport of rowing, this was also where I got my first experience in a weight room. I had never been taught how to strength train before, or the importance of it for both increased sport performance, injury prevention and long term health. And, along with these benefits, strength training gave me a sense of self-confidence I had never felt before. Through my mentors, I was able to push myself further than I ever thought possible and realize that limits are only there if I let them be.
Since college, I have started competing in both ninja warrior and Obstacle Course Racing, and have watched myself continue to push past these limits! Part of the fun is finding new capabilities inside myself I didn’t know I had.
On the other side of things, I also have dealt with my own setbacks and injuries. As frustrating as they can be, they’ve helped remind me the importance of strength training to mitigate the severity of those injuries, help rehab through those injuries, and decrease the chances of some of those injuries happening again. Through continued strength training, I step up to these start lines confident that my body can handle the demands about to be placed on it.
I have worked with people in a wide variety of settings and I have learned two things. One, any strength training helps! A lot of people assume you need to a be in a big gym with lots of equipment and that is just not the case! There are a lot of different ways to build strength, even if all you have is your own body at home! Second, the people who get the most out of it, are the people who are ready to get after it! If you have pursuits outside of the gym, and are motivated by those pursuits, then this is the program for you!
